FLX Institute May Resume Owasco Lake Monitoring
The Finger Lakes Institute may resume monitoring Owasco Lake.
At the Cayuga County Legislature's Planning and Economic Development Committee meeting on Wednesday, a resolution was passed to execute an agreement between the county and the institute to gather information on the lake using a buoy.
After voting against renewing an agreement with the institute back in March, the legislature sent out request for fee quotes, with the Finger Lakes Institute being the only organization being capable of performing the work.
The Institute would only collect the data and post it on a website for public viewing.
Data analysis used to be paid for by the Emerson Foundation; however, it is no longer doing so. Planning and Economic Development Director Steve Lynch told legislators an RFQ could be sent out to find a group able to do the analysis at a later time.
The resolution will be sent to the Ways and Means Committee before a full legislature vote on May 23rd.
